A presentation of this Blog

My name is William Bennett Hyllside.

Basically, this Blog is all about History and story-telling.

Its main focus is my historical literary project called Seeking Mana. It also addresses works of other writers, cineasts and artists of all sorts. On my Facebook Page, you will find Past Reports (old events having happened at the same date than the posting but in earlier years and treated as hot news), calls for participation related to the YasiValu project and updates about the Seeking Mana series.

Hi-story References

Now and then, I will write about an original work of fiction dealing with History. Works of literature, of course, but also movies, plays and what not.

Today, I would like to recommend the marvellous books of Mika Waltari, a Finnish writer I discovered about two decades ago, through his stories set in the Antiquity period. The Egyptian is a great work of fiction of the 1940s, translated to English from a Swedish version. It was praised by literary critics and Egyptologists all the same. I still have fond and vivid memories of this book.

My Projects

I will post regularly to give some updates about the YasiValu project, the Seeking Mana series as well as side projects related to these series. By clicking to the Pages in the Menu, you will find basic information about them.

The Seeking Mana series are historical novels set in the early 19th century and the South Pacific in connection to other parts of the world. The First Episode, The Red Comet, has been written and will be published soon. It starts in 1799 with a Fijian priest having a vision of the Battle of Seringapatam, in India. You get introduced to several characters, such as Vhasemada, a girl from Maduata in th Fiji islands who wishes to be a prominent spiritual figure, Ganesh, a young boy from near Madras who is forced on an adventure across the ocean, the Wilson family in England amongst whom Norah, the Russian-English daughter of William Wilson, Peter, a French-Irish teenager living in a small town near Dublin, Seoifaa, a Chinese fisherwoman and Kalle, a Swedish carpenter, both living in Macao in southern China.

The Episode 02, Lord Dillon, will follow up shortly. It will primarly focus on Peter Dillon and his life in Ireland, as well as the discovery of the crew of the Argo in China. Stay tuned.
