Pacific Hi-story

Why?

The museums and appropriation of History in countries such as Fiji and Tonga play quite a small role on society, the protection-promotion being more effective through the touristic services. In Fiji, for example, the tourism is mainly concentrated in the Western Division while most of the regional History takes place in the other Divisions. When one looks northwards to Vanua Levu and Taveuni islands, it is remarkable to notice that most (all?) focus is put in Cakaudrove (with Savusavu, Tunuloa peninsula and Somosomo on Taveuni) whereas the districts of Macuata and Bua receive little to no attention, in spite of the important historical events that took place over there.

The Seeking Mana Series

A literary work, the Seeking Mana series is a historical-, fantasy- and action-adventure-drivem story covering the period 1800 - 1815. The main settings are South Pacific islands, especially Fiji then Tonga. As the story will move forward, action will be settled too in French Polynesia, New Zealand, and in the modern states of New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania in Australia. Apart from the South Pacific, the story will also cover some geographical and historical areas in all of the other continents.

The Series are to be supported by various side projects.

The backstory audiomovies, made available on this blog. This historically-based material revolves around happenings in the late 18th century, before the beginning of the events found in the Seeking Mana series. Each audiomovie will focus on historical important events helping us to understand the context or the past of some of the main characters. For example, the first audiomovie will be about the assassination of Tu'i Kanokupolu in Tongatapu (Tonga) by Tupouniua in the year 1797, when a few missionaries from the London Missionary Society had recently arrived on the island, dropped off by the Duff captained by James Wilson and his nephew William Wilson.

An independant story will be written too and focus on the year 1797 in Tonga from a Tongan woman perspective, called Yasi Oil & Koki Feathers.

Other side projects may arise with time too.
